Fire Prevention Programs

Annual Fire Safety Poster Contest
Each fall at the beginning of the school year, usually in October and November, the Tyler Fire Department and Smith County Volunteer Firefighters jointly sponsor an annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest which reflects the theme of current year's National Fire Safety Week. Prizes and certificates are awarded for the best posters. The contest is open to all public and private schools and also to home schooled children, grades K-12. For more information or entry forms, please contact either the County Fire Marshal or City of Tyler Fire Marshal.

Home Fire Inspection Program
The City of Tyler Fire Department will inspect any resident's home for fire safety and provide fire safety recommendations on request. There is no charge for this service. Please contact your neighborhood fire station to set up a time for an inspection if you desire one.

Annual Commercial Building Inspection Program
Each commercial building in the City receives an annual fire safety inspection by either the firefighters assigned to their neighborhood fire station or from inspectors in the Fire Marshal's office. There is no charge for the majority of these inspections.

Annual National Fire Prevention Week
Each year, the National Fire Prevention Association designates a week in October as National Fire Prevention Week and selects a fire safety theme to be carried out in various activities. The Tyler Fire Department encourages everyone to visit their local fire station and take a few moments to think about fire safety at that time. Fire drills are held in all area schools in October. Families are encouraged to practice their own exit and emergency drills at home.
