Sharon Roberts

Sharon graduated cum laude from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1983  with a B.A. in Organismal and Systems Biology.   She earned her J.D. at St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio in 1987.  Sharon started working for the City of Tyler as an Assistant City Attorney in December, 1988.  She was appointed as the Presiding Judge of the City of Tyler Municipal Court from 1994 until 1997.  From 1998 to 2013, Sharon was in private practice and continued providing legal services to the City of Tyler as outside counsel.  In 2013, Sharon returned to the City Attorney’s office full-time as Senior Assistant City Attorney.  Sharon served as Interim Housing Manager in the City of Tyler Neighborhood Services Department from June, 2015 to September, 2017.


Sharon has focused on public service and municipal law practice and has represented numerous governmental entities in Northeast Texas, including the City of Tyler, Smith County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications District, the Smith County Volunteer Firefighters Association, and the Northeast Texas Public Health District (NET Health).  She has been involved in nonprofit organization development and capacity building  and is a statewide speaker and trainer on disability, employment, governance, civil rights,  and governmental law matters. 


Sharon’s  current primary clients and responsibilities are Animal Control,  Records Management, City University, Communications, 3-Way and CIP Contracts, Emergency Coordination and Medical Control Board, GIS, NET Health, Human Resources,  Information Technology, Disability Issues Review Board, Tyler Public Library, Neighborhood Services, Animal Care Facility Board, Solid Waste, Transit, and Water Administration.
