Remodeling probably sometime in the 50s or 60s left this building with inappropriate window openings and bark-faced brick. Once the building came into new ownership, the inappropriate materials were removed. Though the historic fabric of the building was gone, the original context and lines were re-interpreted with modern materials. Note that Subway also worked within the downtown design feel and opted for corner-mounted neon signage rather than back-lit plastic.
