1. Dead end fire access roads in excess of 150 feet in length shall be provided with an approved area for turning around fire apparatus.
2. The Tyler Fire Department requires a 46 foot radius / 92 foot diameter for cul de sacs. Further, if the center of a cul de sac is allowed to contain an island or parking, the radius should either be increased proportionately or parking prohibited along the inside and outside curbs. If parking is not allowed, the street should be marked with fire lane signs and the curbs painted red.
3. If traffic calming circles are installed along a road way, either the radii should be increased or parking prohibited in the vicinity of the circle.
4. All fire access roads are required to meet a minimum outside turning radius of 46 feet.
5. Fire access roads must have a minimum clearance of 20 feet in width and 13.5 feet in height. Where a fire hydrant is located on a fire apparatus access road, or if a building over 30 feet in height is located on the road, the minimum road width shall be 26 feet.
