The City Manager’s goal for the 10 in 10 Challenge is to encourage himself and others to lose 10 pounds in the next 10 weeks, particularly in light of the fact that many people put on weight during the holiday season.

McDaniel has specifically called out Tyler Telegraph Publisher Nelson Clyde to join him in the challenge.

“I have challenged Nelson to lose 10 pounds in the next 10 weeks,” said McDaniel.  “If he doesn’t lose the weight, this time he has to shave his head.”

McDaniel shaved his own head last June after losing another Fit City Challenge to Nelson.

At least 30 other community leaders have joined the 10 in 10 Challenge and will be participating in the weekly weigh-ins, including George Roberts of the Northeast Texas Public Health System, Sherriff JB Smith, Tyler Telegraph Editor Dave Berry, and others.

The Fit City Challenge is a community-wide campaign to promote fitter lifestyles in Tyler and the rest of East Texas, led by the Tyler Morning Telegraph with the help of community leaders.
