The City of Tyler City Council voted unanimously to incorporate an amendment to the Tyler Blueprint to include the final adopted Tyler 21 Plan which was presented at their meeting on Jan. 9.
The Blueprint amendment reads:
Pursue the Tyler 21 Vision to become nationally known for a commitment to community, a robust business environment, and the beauty of public places.
The Tyler 21 addition became the 10th tenet of the Tyler Blueprint, which was adopted in 1997 and is an organizational guidepost for best practices for City operations. The Blueprint outlines an organizational culture committed to competitive contractual service delivery. (To view the Blueprint, please visit the City of Tyler web page at www.cityoftyler.org.)
The Tyler 21 Plan is a strategic framework for future actions for the City and will act as a roadmap as the City continues to grow. It defines a vision for the future linked to overall goals and policies, and it contains strategies and action items for achieving the goals.
“It was important to the City to incorporate the Tyler 21 Plan into the Blueprint so that it becomes integral to the operational activities of each and every Department,” said Mayor Joey Seeber. “This plan is not something that will sit on the shelf. It is a testament to ensuring that every step we take in the future is in line with what our citizens want and what our future needs will be."
The Plan took more than 18 months to complete and involved extensive public involvement, including a community visioning retreat (300+ attendees), six open houses and a survey of Tylerites. Focus groups, interviews with community leaders, and newsletter and website comments were also important vehicles to gather information about what was important to the residents of Tyler and how they envisioned Tyler growing to meet the needs of generations to come.
The Tyler 21 Plan addresses issues such as downtown revitalization, historic preservation, parks and recreation, transportation, and housing and neighborhoods. For more information on the plan, visit www.tyler21.com.
