City 2007 Annual Report Delivered to Citizens Sunday

by Susan Guthrie - March 20, 2008

The City of Tyler will disseminate its 2007 Annual Report as an insert in the Sunday, March 23, edition of the Tyler Courier Times Telegraph.  Copies of the report will be available at City Hall beginning Monday and a downloadable version will be available on the City’s homepage at www.cityoftyler.org under the “welcome” tab.

The 16-page report outlines the financial status of the City, highlights new programs and achievements from 2007 and illustrates how the Tyler 21 Comprehensive Plan integrates into the City’s Blueprint business philosophy.

“The annual report is one of many tools that we use to ensure Citizen’s are informed about their municipal government,” said Tyler Mayor Joey Seeber.  “The City’s Channel 3, the My Tyler website, e-newsletter, news releases and public speaking engagements are other important vehicles we use to communicate with our constituents.“

“With implementation of Tyler 21 going full speed ahead, it is increasingly important that Tylerites receive consistent information from the City in a variety of ways,” said City Manager Designate Mark McDaniel.  “Not all of our citizens have cable T.V. or have access to the internet.  We feel it is critical that we provide information about the City in many formats.”

The annual report also provides information on Tyler’s tax rate as compared to other cities of comparable size and contains a list of important phone numbers on the back cover.

Examples of achievements highlighted in the report include:

·         The City’s property tax rate has dropped 60% since 1995.

·         The Solid Waste Department completed the transition to fully automated collection service.

·         The Police Department’s Project Active Call allows the public to see live Police calls through the website.

·         The City’s Faulkner Park Playground/Sprayground was completed.

·         The Neighborhood Services Department reconstructed nine homes that were dilapidated beyond repair.

·         The City launched the Proactive Code Enforcement program to improve the appearance of Tyler neighborhoods.

·         The Tyler Pounds Regional Airport purchased two new jet bridges to enhance security and passenger safety.

·         And much, much more!
