by Susan Guthrie - October 14, 2009

At the City Council meeting held today, City Manager Mark McDaniel announced the appointment of new leadership for the Parks Department and Water Quality Department.  Stephanie Rollings will begin serving as Parks director effective within the next 30 days and Jimmie Johnson will begin his appointment as manager of the Water Quality and Production Department on Oct. 19.

“I am pleased that we have been able to hire these quality professionals to join the City of Tyler team,” commented McDaniel.  “They each possess skills and experience that will enhance our operations.”

Ms. Rollings has most recently served as chief planner for Planning Concepts where she managed municipal planning projects including comprehensive plans, parks planning and development, and transportation planning.  She received a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University and has more than 14 years of municipal management and planning experience.  She previously worked for the City of Tyler for seven years, serving as a key leader, planning director, senior planner and planner.  Her career also includes positions with the City of Palestine, Bartlett and West Engineers and the City of Lubbock.

“Stephanie is a results-oriented professional who brings skills such as parks planning and development, municipal executive leadership and public facilitation to the table,” added McDaniel.  “As an added bonus, she is very familiar with the City’s Tyler 21 Comprehensive Plan as well as other local and regional planning efforts already underway.”

Jimmie Johnson has more than 20 years experience in the public and private water utilities sector, having worked in a broad range of water utilities disciplines for leading companies and municipalities including URS Corporation, the Department of Defense, Utilities Incorporated, City of Orange and the City of Brownwood. He also has multisite management experience that spans the United States. Mr. Johnson has a Master of Business Administration from Regis University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Charter Oak State College. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Public Administration from Walden University.

“Jimmie is a tremendous complement to the City’s water management program,” explained McDaniel.  “In addition to his academic and professional achievements, Jimmie holds the highest Texas professional licenses and certifications in water and wastewater from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality".
