Downtown Tyler’s fourth ArtWalk event will feature 13 artists with work in a variety of media. The ArtWalk, set for Friday, Sept. 3 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. will be held throughout the downtown area at a variety of venues. Attendees are encouraged to start the walk at Gallery Main Street at 110 W. Erwin to pick up a map of display locations.
In addition to the artwork, there will be dance and an “indie” art wall. The indie art wall is a billboard-sized canvas that artists are invited to paint on during the ArtWalk. The ArtWall will be three-sided, meaning artists working on panels will not be able to see what other artists are doing.
“Eventually the ArtWall will be opened, and the result will be a very interesting and diverse triptych,” Main Street Director Beverly Abell said.
The ArtWall is made possible through the cooperation and work of Lamar Advertising and Downtown Tyler Lofts.
The ArtWalk features a myriad of artistic expressions including fine art, dance and other activities. The popular FLYkids dance troupe will perform throughout the evening at the T.B. Butler Plaza. Art lovers will be able to view ceramics, mixed media collages, acrylics, oil paintings and sculpture portraying a variety of subjects.
In celebration of the first anniversary of the existence of Gallery Main Street, a silent auction will be held at Gallery Main Street, 110 W. Erwin. Pieces donated by DTAC artists will be available for bid during ArtWalk and the ensuing week. All proceeds of the silent auction will go to the Main Street Department and its arts programming.
There is no admission charge to attend ArtWalk, but artwork will be available for purchase.
