Gallery Main Street will launch its second art exhibit of 2012 on Thursday, Feb. 9 with an opening reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the gallery, 110 W. Erwin, in downtown Tyler.
“Simply Black and White” is the theme of the show, which includes photography, works in pencil, acrylic, ink and more, said City of Tyler Main Street Department Leader Beverly Abell.
“The variety of subjects and techniques in this show speaks to the talent and imagination of the artists in our area,” Abell said. “On first consideration, one might think a show featuring only black-and-white items might be limited, but that is absolutely not the case with this exhibit,” she said, noting that subject matter ranges from very traditional landscapes to abstract images.
Best in Show will be announced at 5:30 p.m.
All exhibits at Gallery Main Street are juried, meaning that artists must submit digital images of their work and have them evaluated and scored by a panel of judges that includes professional artists from throughout the area. The top-scoring pieces are selected to be included in the exhibit. The judging process is anonymous.
Gallery Main Street is a project of the City of Tyler and its Main Street Department in cooperation with the Downtown Tyler Arts Coalition, a volunteer group of artists who work to promote the arts in all forms in the downtown Tyler area.
