CDBG week celebrates the significant contributions the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program has made in Tyler.

Tyler residents are encouraged to attend the weeklong celebration which will be held at the Neighborhood Services Office at 304 N. Border Ave. to learn more about the programs available to Tylerites.

The CDBG program is a partnership among federal, state and local governments, as well as businesses, non-profit and community organizations. The program funds a myriad of social services, economic development activities and housing programs in this community.

Over the past three decades, the City of Tyler has received more than $20 million in CDBG funds. For the past 13 years, the City has used these funds to target a specific area to have a greater impact on the community. This concentrated funding approach has allowed the City to address drainage problems, add curbs and gutters, as well as improve housing in a designated area each year. Those targeted areas are now joining together to create a cohesive improvement zone, which has had a tangible impact on the lives of citizens.

In the past, the city has split CDBG funds among various public service agencies including the Alzheimer’s Alliance of Northeast Texas, East Texas Crisis Center, Mental Health Association of Tyler, New Life Learning Center, Parents Anonymous, and People Attempting to Help (PATH) Neighborhood Initiatives. Additional funding was provided to Tyler Habitat for Humanity and Tyler Community Homes through the HOME program.
