Tyler Police Arrest DWI Suspect for Three Hit and Run Accidents



On Thursday, October 5, 2017, around 9:00 p.m., Tyler Police were informed that a vehicle had caused three separate accidents and left the scene of all of them.

A witness was following the suspect vehicle and reported that they believed the driver was intoxicated by his driving manner.  Officers caught up to the vehicle at E. Erwin outside the Loop where they attempted to pull the suspect vehicle over.

The driver evaded officers driving into the county and then fled on foot into a wooded area.  Officers gave chase and were able to take the suspect into custody.

The driver was identified as Eugene Johnson, B/M, born 1/27/1981.  Johnson was charged with 3 counts of leaving the scene of an accident, DWI with open container, Evading in a vehicle, and Evading on foot.  Johnson has an extensive criminal history.

No injuries were reported in the hit and run collisions.
