The Tyler Police Department is committed to making sure its officers are well trained and well prepared.  The Tyler Junior College Law Enforcement Academy is a partnership between the Tyler Police Department, the Smith County Sheriff's Department and Tyler Junior College.  The Academy is designed to offer low cost training to area Law Enforcement Officers and perspective employees.  The Academy was first formed in 1998 and since that time, has conducted numerous basic law enforcement academy classes and hundreds of in-service classes.
