Child Passenger Safety Program
Among other programs under the direction of the Traffic Unit is the Child Passenger Safety Program. The Tyler Police Department has six officers who are certified as Child Passenger Safety Technicians. These technicians assist parents, grandparents, and caregivers in understanding the laws regarding child safety seats, help them install car seats and assure that they understand how to safely use the car seats. They help walk-ins and participate in Child Safety Seat Check-ups regularly scheduled around the Tyler area. Technicians can be contacted at the Police Department for assistance or for answers to questions. Call 903-531-1072 or 903-531-1096 if you have questions about child passenger issues. You can also access the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration for car seat recall information at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/childseat.cfm or Safe Riders at 1-800-252-8255.
