Therapet visiting Tyler Pounds travelers to relieve holiday stress
Therapet and Tyler Pounds Regional Airport (TYR) are partnering up to help beat the stress of holiday traveling. Therapet human-animal teams will be visiting and greeting arriving and departing travelers at TYR on Monday, Nov. 20 and Wednesday, Nov. 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
“Around the holidays, people are trying to get places quickly,” said Therapet Executive Director Carianne Fisher. “Our experiences have shown us that it’s nice for people to be able to stop for a minute and pet a dog. We are hoping to soothe some frazzled nerves by being available to travelers.”
According to the United States Department of Transportation, the Thanksgiving holiday is the most traveled holiday of the year. After finding that similar organizations were visiting larger airports with their therapy pets during the holidays, Therapet reached out to Tyler Pounds. In addition to the Thanksgiving holiday, Therapet will also be visiting during the Christmas season on Dec. 21 and 22.
“We (Therapet) visit a lot of schools so our schedule clears up around the holidays when schools are out of session,” says Fisher. “This gives us the opportunity and time to reach out to the community and give back.”
Davis Dickson, TYR Airport Manager, thinks this partnership with Therapet is something that will benefit the community, draw attention to the airport and offer a service that is missing during the holiday season.
“This is a great opportunity for all involved,” said Dickson. “It gives a great organization exposure and it makes TYR unique in offering a service that benefits travelers. People are going to travel. Now, we can offer them something to look forward when they come into Tyler during the holidays.”
Therapet’s mission is to utilize specially trained and certified animals to promote health, hope and healing. For more information on Therapet, visit their website at
