Film Tyler Guidelines

Tyler prides itself on being a film-friendly community, we would love to hear from production companies planning on filming in the City.

Filming permits are not required within Tyler. However, if you plan on filming on City of Tyler property (such as public parks, City buildings or the Library) permission must be granted from the City of Tyler Communications Department to ensure there are no conflicts with other public activities. Call (903) 531-1272 for location approval. Visit www.TylerParksandRec.com to view the City's numerous public parks.

The Downtown Square and Courthouse are under the Smith County jurisdiction and require their approval for production at either location https://www.smith-county.com/Commissioners/Ordinances/DownTownSquare.aspx.

Permits are not required for filming on public sidewalks as long as you are not preventing other pedestrians from accessing the pathways. If it is necessary to block a roadway, a street closure can be permitted through the Tyler Streets Department by calling  (903) 531-1201.

Check out the Downtown Tyler Film Festival website at www.TylerFilmFest.com for more information about the upcoming film festival and entry details.
