About Tyler Transit
The Tyler Transit Company was incepted in 1936 by City of Tyler Chairman Oscar Burton and the name was later changed to the Tyler Transit System under the city of Tyler. Tyler Transit System is operated by the City of Tyler, Texas and serves the public within the City of Tyler city limits and is recognized as an Urban Transit District (UTD).

Tyler Transit’s primary purpose is to make plans to guide the future development of the transit system and to provide joint services to serve its community and surrounding areas. Tyler Transit is funded by grants and contracts from state and federal governments, as well as by local funds.Tyler Transit is governed by the Tyler City Council and is comprised of a Mayor elected at large and six single member district Council-members who are elected for two-year terms to represent the citizens of the City of Tyler.
