July 2012: Atherine Jones, Tyler Senior Center
Atherine Jones began volunteering for the City of Tyler in the Communications Department, assisting with clerical duties and the City’s events such as the Mayor’s Citizens Academy, State of the City and the City Council meetings.
Atherine has now extended her service to the Senior Center where she assists the center’s supervisor, Kay Odom, in the office and with the many activities held there. Mrs. Odom says, “She’s so precious and wonderful and we’re so excited to have her. She’s so sweet and willing to help with whatever needs to get done.”
Atherine says she has loved learning more about what is going on in the City and helping with its special events.
After going through a personal tragedy, she became an ordained minister and devotes much of her time to mentoring ministries and teaching worship through dance. Atherine also gives back to the community by leading workout sessions for senior citizens.
Atherine has been such a blessing to the City of Tyler. She’s brought her positive energy and can do attitude to make a huge impact within her first five months volunteering and has already given nearly 200 hours to the City of Tyler.
Thank you Atherine, we are so lucky to have you and you are such an inspiration to everyone around you!
