Procedure
A request for a proclamation must be made in writing to the City of Tyler Communications Department at least two weeks prior to the date that the proclamation will picked up from City Hall. To make a request online, please complete and submit the Proclamation Request Form below.  Each request must be accompanied by the name and telephone number of a person who will be able to answer additional questions about the proposed proclamation, if any.

Individual(s) or organization(s) seeking a proclamation must accompany the request with:
1. Facts about the subject matter – enough information for four sections.
2. Specific title of what is being proclaimed.
3. Date of the proclamation and date to be presented.

The Mayor of Tyler will make the final decision on whether a proclamation is issued or not. Proclamations will not be issued to non-residents or for a non-Tyler event unless specifically approved by the Mayor of Tyler.

All proclamations must be picked up at City Hall receptionist desk unless prior arrangements are made.

Any proclamation to be presented to a City board, commission or department must be approved in advance.

Proclamation Policy

The City of Tyler will issue a proclamation at no charge to recognize local non-profit organizations and initiatives for their outstanding achievement in the community, special event(s) or day(s) that are noteworthy or historically significant.

Proclamations will not be issued for commercial purposes, such as the opening of a new business, service, product or professional service. This also includes business anniversaries that are less than 25 years.

In addition, proclamations will not be issued for deceased persons, birthdays, weddings or family reunions.

 

All requests are subject to approval by the Mayor of Tyler, who has the authority to deny or approve.

 

Once a proclamation has been submitted, the contact person on the request will be contacted as verification of receipt of submission.  If you have submitted a proclamation request and have not been contacted within 24 hours, there may have been an error in the submission process.  Please contact the Communications Department at (903) 531-1253.

 

Please note that submitting a proclamation request does not also request someone to read the proclamation at your event.  Should you require a member of Council to read the proclamation, please contact the Communications Department at (903) 531-1253.
