Tyler Police detectives have determined that this incident began as a drug deal between three people that turned into an altercation and then a shooting.


A 19 year old male from Lufkin, identified as Armani Jewel Fields was shot and killed.  A 20 year old male from Henderson, identified as Tristan Craig was also shot. He drove himself to the hospital where he is in stable condition. Detectives are aware of the identity of the third subject who ran from the incident.  Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators recovered multiple weapons from the scene.


The woman who was shot while in her apartment, but was not involved in the altercation, is in stable condition.

Tyler Police Investigate Shooting


On March 3rd, 2020 at approximately 11:15pm, Tyler police and fire responded to 3400 Varsity (The Foundry Apartments) in reference to a shooting call.  Upon arrival, emergency personnel located two victims in the northeast corner of the apartment complex near building #2700.  Both victims had been struck by gunfire with one victim later transported from the scene by EMS with non-life threatening injuries.  Initial investigation revealed that there was an altercation in the parking lot that resulted in gunfire.  One of the victims was struck while inside a nearby apartment and was not involved in the earlier altercation.  The other victim at the scene was determined to be deceased.  A third gunshot victim later showed up at UT Health ER at 1000 South Beckham in a personal vehicle.  This person is undergoing treatment and their status is unknown.  At this point, detectives and crime scene personnel are processing the scene at the apartments and at the hospital.  The identity of the deceased victim is not being released pending notification of next of kin.  Tyler PD, Tyler Fire and UT Health EMS were assisted at the scene by UT Tyler Police. 


Additional information will be released as it is available once investigators have had a chance to interview all parties involved and process the scene.
