Tyler Water Utilities (TWU) has lifted the Stage 2 mandatory water restrictions that went into effect earlier this month while the Lake Palestine Water Treatment Plant was offline after multiple critical equipment failures and flooding in the filter pipe gallery.
Repairs have progressed enough to allow the plant to resume operations safely. With both the Lake Palestine and Golden Road Water Treatment Plants now contributing to the water supply, system pressure and capacity have stabilized.
“Thanks to the community’s conservation efforts, we were able to maintain steady service while we made significant repairs,” said Utilities Director Kate Dietz, P.E. “Your patience and cooperation made all the difference.”
Currently, six of the eight filters are back online at a reduced capacity. TWU crews will be working with a contractor from now through the spring to rehabilitate the filter underdrains, media, and replace additional valves in the filter gallery. Once these rehabilitations are complete, the Lake Palestine Water Treatment Plant will be back at full capacity.
