The City of Tyler will participate in a statewide emergency alert system drill on Thursday, April 2, between 10 a.m. and noon, as part of a coordinated effort led by the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
Residents will receive test emergency notifications during this time and may receive more than one message from participating agencies. These alerts are part of the drill and do not indicate an actual emergency. No action is required from the public.
During the drill, the City will test its wireless emergency alert system through the Smart911 RAVE Alerts System. It is an opt-in notification system, allowing residents to receive emergency messages by text, phone call, or email.
To help ensure alerts are received when needed:
Outdoor warning sirens may also be tested, weather permitting. Sirens will not be activated if there is lightning, heavy rain, or sustained high winds at the time of the test. These sirens are tested monthly on the first Tuesday at 11 a.m.
This exercise helps confirm that alerting systems are functioning properly and are ready to be activated during severe weather and other emergencies.
