K-9 Officer Garrett Martin and Izzie Awarded 1st Place


On May 6th – 9th Tyler Police K-9 Officer Garrett Martin and his K-9 (IZZIE) attended the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association (NNDDA) Conference held in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Over 120 K-9 and handlers from across the United States attended the four day training and competition.   Throughout the week, K-9’s and their handlers participated in extensive narcotics training scenarios and classes.

Upon completion of the training, all 120 K-9 teams participated in a narcotics detection competition.  We are proud to announce that Officer Garrett Martin and K-9 Izzie we’re awarded the 1st place trophy in the competition as well as the Bark, Bandit Trooper Award for the top score for all dogs over 5 years of age.   Congratulations to both of you for an outstanding performance you truly are the “Top Dog”

We would also like to congratulate our other department K-9 (PACO) who recently retired who’s handler was Officer Steve Black.  PACO was awarded the NNDDA Meritorious Service Award at the conference for his 8.5 years of service to the Tyler Police Department.
