Arbor Day 2018 announced

The Tyler Trees Committee, Keep Tyler Beautiful and the Tyler Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a tree planting event to celebrate Arbor Day in conjunction with the University of Texas at Tyler Trees Board on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 9:30 a.m. on the UT Tyler’s campus located at 3900 University Blvd.

Volunteers are needed to help plant more than 100 trees of various sizes around several areas of the campus.

“This is expected to be the City of Tyler’s largest Arbor Day Celebration to date,” said Cody Goldman, City arborist. “Last year, the Tyler Trees Committee brought home the 2017 Best Arbor Day Celebration in the State of Texas and we want to go after it again!”

The event ceremonies will take place in between the soccer and intramural fields near the intersection of Old Omen Road and University Boulevard.

A light breakfast and drinks will be served and Chick-Fil-A will provide lunch. There will be various educational booths relating to tree maintenance, planting and ecology. Arbor Day 2018 will also include a tree climbing demonstration, DJ, UT Tyler student group performances and a variety of other activities.

The majority of this year’s Arbor Day celebration has been funded by private organizations and generous donations from a variety of sponsors that can be seen on the website at www.TreeTyler.com. Participants may pre-register online, find parking maps, get information about sponsors and learn about upcoming forestry events in the area.

Arbor Day 2018 t-shirts will be given out on a first come, first serve basis to volunteers helping plant trees as well as many other giveaways. Volunteers will be entered in drawings for trees, Arbor Day Foundation merchandise, Tyler Trees Committee tumblers, an IPad and much more!
Donations and sponsorships are still welcome. For more information, please contact Cody Goldman at (903) 531-1179 or cgoldman@tylertexas.com.

About Tyler Trees Committee

The Tyler Trees Committee was established in 1989 and has planted thousands of trees in Tyler's parks and schools with the help of thousands of community volunteers. The Trees Committee was originally formed to address the loss of trees in Bergfeld Park. Since 1989, the Committee has gone on to host tree plantings in other City parks, schools and other locations. Trees planted by the Committee have been carefully researched and varieties are chosen that are adaptable to Tyler's soil conditions and climate. By working with the City arborist, the Committee is assured the best selections are made so future generations will benefit from their efforts.
