City to unveil historic marker honoring Fred Douglas Lodge #111

What: The City of Tyler invites the public to attend the unveiling of a local Historic Subject Marker recognizing Fred Douglas Lodge #111, the first Prince Hall Masonic lodge established in Tyler. 

The ceremony will be held on Friday, Aug. 14, at 1 p.m. at the Fred Douglas Lodge, 912 W. Queen St.

Earlier this year, the Tyler Historical Preservation Board approved the subject marker designation, recognizing the Lodge's significant contributions to Tyler's history and the legacy of Prince Hall Freemasonry.

Founded in 1919, Fred Douglas Lodge #111 members first met at Ebenezer AME Church before relocating to its current home in 1958. For decades, the Lodge has served as a center for civic, fraternal and community activities, hosting organizations such as the Order of the Eastern Star and the Heroines of Jericho, while also supporting neighborhood businesses.

The unveiling ceremony is free and open to the public.
