Most of Tyler’s wastewater system runs underground, out of sight but relied on every day. The City is moving forward with another phase of rehabilitation work to address aging infrastructure, reduce the risk of wastewater overflows and improve reliability.

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, the Tyler City Council approved a $1,334,800 engineering services contract with Pape-Dawson Consulting Engineers LLC for the Consent Decree Group 9 Remedial Measures Implementation Project.

The project will address wastewater infrastructure identified during a recent reassessment of the Group 9 area, which spans across the City. Planned work includes:

  • Constructing or improving manholes in poor or very poor condition

  • Cleaning and inspecting 6,603 linear feet of wastewater pipe

  • Rehabilitating approximately 686 linear feet of pipe

  • Replacing approximately 5,786 linear feet of pipe

  • Completing about 261 targeted repairs

Pape-Dawson will provide engineering services through the design and construction phases, helping the City select the appropriate repair method for each location and oversee the work.

The project is part of the City’s Consent Decree with the Environmental Protection Agency, which became effective in 2017 to address aging wastewater infrastructure and reduce sanitary sewer overflows. Condition assessments continued over a nine-year period, and Pipeline Analysis recently reassessed the Group 9 assets to identify the areas included in this next phase.

The Group 9 project continues the City’s long-term effort to strengthen the wastewater system and provide more reliable service for residents and businesses. Construction of Group 9 is expected to be completed by the end of 2028. To learn more about the Consent Decree, visit MyTylerTexas.com.
