Bulky Items and Special Pick-Ups
To place a Bulky Item or Special Pick-Up request, please fill out the online Bulky Item Pickup form.
Bulky Items
Each residential household that receives curbside collection services can request two bulky waste pick-ups each calendar year at no charge. Pick-ups will occur within five business days after a request is made.
Residents may request more than two bulky item collections within a calendar year, but the additional collections will be handled as special collection requests, with a fee charged based on the size and quantity of the items.
In the event of delays, Tyler Solid Waste will work to pick up your bulk waste as soon as possible.
Bulky item pick-up is limited to 6 to 8 cubic yards. There is an extra charge for larger piles. Bulk brush and tires are not included in the free bulky item pick-up; these items require a special collection. (For more details, please refer to the FAQ section of this page.)
Special Collections
Tyler Solid Waste offers special collections of bulky items, tires, bulk brush, and other items too large for normal trash pick-ups to residents and commercial customers. Special collection scheduling is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Pricing for this service starts at $20 and varies based on the size and quantity of the items. Bundled limbs that together weigh less than 50 pounds and measure less than 4 feet can be picked up free of charge.
Passenger tire prices with no rims start at $5 each and increase based on size and condition.
To schedule a special collection request, please fill out the online form.
Discarded Property
Any property put out at the curb line, such as furniture, clothing, and appliances, requires notification to the Solid Waste Office as per City Ordinance Sec. 16-4. Residential Collection. If Solid Waste does not receive notification of the items at the curb, a written warning shall be given by tagging the property with a door hanger at the residence. If the property is out more than two days and the owner has yet to make any contact with the Solid Waste Office, a special pick-up will be made, and an automatic charge, per the fee schedule, shall be made. If property is left out and the owner cannot be determined, Code Enforcement will be contacted to handle the discarded property.
FAQs
What items fall under bulky or special pick-up?
Bulky items include furniture, appliances, carpet and fencing material, old toys, and other large items.
Special pick-up items include tires, limbs, brush, or tree stumps for a fee based on the size and quantity of the items.
How large is 8 cubic yards?
When should I put items at the curb?
- Place bulky items at the curb, then request your bulky waste collection. Crews will evaluate the pick-up and collect the items listed if the pile meets the requirement.
- If the pile exceeds 8 cubic yards, the customer will be notified that to proceed with the pick-up, there will be a special collection fee based on size and quantity.
- After crews have collected items on a street, do not place more bulky items on the curb until you have placed another bulky item pick-up request.
If my items are gone before the crew arrives, does it count toward my two free pick-ups?
If the customer submits a request for a free bulky pick-up and the items are gone when a Solid Waste crew arrives on-site, it does not count as one of the customer's free pick-ups.
Do tree limbs count as bulky waste?
Bulk brush is any brush that is unbundled, longer than 4 feet, and weighs over 50 pounds.
Bulk brush, limbs, tree stumps and more than 25 leaf bags, are considered a special pick-up. A fee will be charged based on size and quantity.
If you plan to have bulk brush collected as well as bulk trash, please remember to:
- Create separate piles for household bulk waste and bulk brush.
- Leave a minimum of two feet between the piles.
