How We Serve

Code Enforcement handles 40 types of cases, ranging from junked vehicles, high weeds and grass, illegal dumpsites, and trash and junk to zoning violations such as prohibited signs, home occupations, substandard structures, and outdoor storage. Each year, seven officers address more than 8,000 code violations. 

Report Code Violations

To report a code violation, please call our office at (903) 531-1312. Make sure to include the address of the violation, what the violation is, and a contact number in case more information is needed. If the address is not known, please provide the closest address or intersection to the violation. All reports are anonymous; no names or numbers will be given out.

How can I have a garage sale?

In accordance with Sec. 10-455 of our Code of Ordinances, a garage sale is a sale of personal property conducted within a residential district.

  • Only those garage sales in compliance with the regulations of this section are permitted in a residentially zoned district. Any other attempted sale is prohibited in residential districts.
  • Sales that require a sales tax permit are not authorized by this section. The sale of merchandise acquired solely for resale purposes is prohibited.
  • No more than one garage sale may be conducted from any residence during any consecutive six-month period for a maximum of two per year.
  • No garage sale may be held for a period exceeding three consecutive days unless a longer duration is approved by the planning director through issuance of a temporary use permit.
  • All signs or notices posted in regard to any garage sale shall be posted only on the premises at which said sale is held, and shall be so located as not to constitute an impairment to or obstruction of traffic. No sign permit is required.

How do I report a fallen tree or tree limbs?

The City of Tyler will only respond to reports of fallen trees or tree limbs if they are blocking a street or right-of-way. To report a blocked street by a tree or tree limb, please call our Streets Department at (903) 531-1393 or through the My Tyler app on the Apple app store or Google Play store

How do I report graffiti?

If you see unsanctioned graffiti anywhere within the City of Tyler, please leave a detailed message at (903) 535-8242 and our Keep Tyler Beautiful team will handle it. 

What is a junked vehicle?

A vehicle is considered a junk vehicle if it does not have a current vehicle registration sticker and has one or more of the following issues:

  • It is wrecked, dismantled or partially dismantled or discarded
  • It is inoperable on public property for 72 consecutive hours
  • It is inoperable on private property at least 30 days
