Municipal Court

The City of Tyler Municipal Court is a criminal court of record established by the city charter. Because Tyler is the county seat and a metropolitan hub for the entire region, approximately 45,000 cases are filed in this court annually. Its jurisdiction applies to all areas within the City limits, nuisances occurring within 5,000 feet of the City limits, and City-owned properties in its Extraterritorial Jurisdiction.

This court adjudicates all Class "C" misdemeanors including traffic offenses and City code violations. These offenses are non-jailable unless the judgment is not satisfied. The City of Tyler Municipal Court also hears criminal juvenile matters, serves as the truancy court for Tyler Independent School District, and holds driver license hearings for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
